Pay it forward: how strangers bought movie tickets for each other

Some people wanted to buy a Brotherhood ticket for someone they'd never meet. [DAREN: verify where the idea came from.] So we built a way. A supporter pays for a seat, and anyone who can't afford a ticket claims one on a public page, no questions asked.

[DAREN: the number of seats paid forward and claimed by the time this goes out, or a short story about one claim.]

The Pay It Forward claim page

1. Pay it forward tickets

A public page where someone enters a name, email and ZIP and claims one to four free ticket codes. When the pool runs out, they join a waitlist, and the next paid-forward seat goes to them first. You get an alert when the pool runs low.

2. Presale code delivery

We sold tickets before any theater was booked. When the codes from our ticketing partner arrived, this matched every pre-order to the right number of codes, wrote them onto each buyer in our email tool, and drafted the email for review. More than 200 buyers, almost no copy and paste.

3. The donation page

Gifts, one-time or monthly, without sending anyone to another site. It uses Stripe's payment form right on your page.
